Sedation is a process used to establish a relaxed, easy and calm state through the use of oral sedatives.

The technique is easy and requires no additional needles. Best of all, the medications create such a comfortable experience that most patients do not remember the visit; it is as if they slept through the treatment. Oral Sedation Dentistry maintains a level of consciousness in the patient for safety and cooperation.

One of the major benefits of sedation dentistry is that people often feel like their dental procedure lasts only a few minutes, when in fact it might have taken hours to perform.

Whether it’s a broken tooth that needs to be fixed, yellow teeth that need to be whitened, missing teeth that need to be replaced, or pain that needs to be eliminated, Oral Sedation Dentistry can help you regain your oral health and have the smile always wanted. In fact, any dental procedure can be performed while you are sedated – including root canal treatment, fillings, crowns, gum therapy and cleanings. You can have dental treatment you need and want, painlessly.

STEP ONE - Making your first appointment.
Simply call, or email our office. Our dental team will answer any questions you have and ask you some simple questions to help ensure you get the care you want and deserve.

STEP TWO - Welcoming visit.
We gather information regarding your health and discuss with you your wants and desires. If you’re comfortable, we’ll take x-rays and look in your mouth. You will never be judged or embarrassed.

It is critical that you provide our dental team with an updated health history including any medications you are on, including vitamins and supplements. Factors like smoking and alcohol consumption can alter the effectiveness of sedation medications, so be sure to tell us about any habits you may have.

STEP THREE - Preparing for your sedation/anxiety free visit
We’ll give you a prescription for a sedative to take the night before your first appointment to guarantee a good night’s sleep and to make sure you wake up relaxed.

STEP FOUR - Arriving for Treatment
Your companion will bring you to the office. Additional medications will be provided to create the ultimate in relaxation. Our experienced dental team will monitor you throughout your entire visit.

STEP FIVE - Going home
Your companion will take you home from your sedation appointment. The remainder of the day should be taken off. Be sure to stay hydrated and drink lots of fluids. You should not drive or operate heavy machinery for 24 hours.

STEP SIX – The next day
Most patients feel no discomfort or residual effects from the dental visit and are ready and able to return to their regular daily routine.

Read what our patients are saying:

“Oral Sedation Dentistry was used for my crown preparation work and I found that it’s the only way to get serious dental work done. I was so relaxed I kept dozing off. I had no side effects or pain from the freezing. The next day I didn’t feel any affects from all the dental procedures done.” – Sharon T.

“Because I was nervous about my dental procedure, McKenzie Dental offered me a different option –Oral Sedation Dentistry. The sedation let me sleep through the night before my dental appointment and kept me relaxed throughout the procedure. It was completely painless.” – Shelby B.
